How to clean a yellowing plug in or other home fragrance warmer?

Mommy to a blessed baby girl! asked:

I own 2 Bath and Body Works WallFlower units. Like many home fragrance warmers (Glade Plugins, ect), it is starting to yellow around the edges. I remember reading an article in Martha Stewart Living a couple years ago that outlined how to clean these things, but I can’t find it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean them so that nasty yellow color comes off?

You could try bleach or a magic eraser sponge. Incidentally, a word of warning, we had one of these plug ins that started smoking. Fortunately we noticed it but we had to touch up the emulsion of the walls where it had blackened. In that same week we read in the paper that a lady had had her entire kitchen on fire because of one of these things. We have stopped using them because of this.
